Features:
1. Each player has been carefully tweaked and tested to match as closely as possible their real numbers for the 95-96 season and beyond.
2. Every player has their own photo that matches the 95-96 season.
3. Accurate contracts and bird years for every player.
4. Specified profile ratings for each player. Rodman has a bad attitude, Bryant Reeves is injury prone, and Reggie Miller will be a Pacer for life.
5. Accurate FG%, 3P%, and FT% for each player.
6. Accurate shot selection; Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott will bomb threes on you; Kemp will posterize.
7. Each player has accurate information, from colleges to height/weight to their own jersey number.
8. Each team boasts a lineup that mocks as closely as possible the opening day in the 1995-96 season.
9. Each team features their 1995-96 head coach. (Assistant coaches are all fictional at the moment due to lack of info).
10. Includes all 29 teams with old school logos and banners. (Credit to Hell Atlantic and Icy for their great work, courts are not included due to large file size, so make sure you install those separately.)
11. Other 90's rosters can/will be built off this one in the future.
12. Rebounds and assists have been fixed and are highly accurate (Rodman averages 13-14 RPG, Stockton averages 9-10 APG.)
13. Team records reflect the 1995-96 season closely. (Chicago will get around 72-10 and Memphis will bomb.)
14. Rookies and younger players have the potential to come up big or fool you into thinking they can make it in the NBA. (Ed O’Bannon has tremendous potential, but injury prone and has bad work ethic.)
15. A fresh pool of free agents and coaches are available that have been imported from a generated league. They will have minimal impact on the season.
16. 1996-97 draft file included. (Some fictional players were added due to lack of information.)
Installation:
Extract the roster file to your /DDSPB/ folder and overwrite all. Make sure you back up any player photos, banners, or logos that you do not want overwritten. Start a new league and import the roster file. Also, don't forget to import the 1996 draft file at the beginning of the season.
Setup:
Year: 1995
Teams: 29
Salary Cap: $23,000,000
Luxury Tax: $35,000,000
Limited Ratings Mode: On
Randomize Team Owners: On

1.6.2 Fixes:
-Added a season guide
-Raised Lindsey Hunter's defense
-Raised Kurt Thomas's potential defense
1.61 Fixes:
-Added 2000 draft file
-"Normalized" defense and IQ ratings for all draft files to match with 1995-1996 roster
-Lowered Steve Francis's scoring potential and blocking potential and 3P%
-Lowered Lamar Odom's potential scoring
-Raised Grant Hill's potential scoring and durability
-Lowered Glen Rice's scoring
1.6 Fixes:
- Updated main roster to be compatible with the latest version of DDS:PB
- Fixed database error for coaches on Phoenix, Vancouver, and a DLeague team
- Set any ratings below 30 and above 100 to either 30 or 100 to avoid possible crashes
- Fixed shot preferences for some players
- Fixed -1 FG% for a few players to avoid possible crashes
- Error free according to WS Modding Kit :)
1.5 Fixes:
- Added 1999 Draft file (complete with college stats)
- Fixed various "bust" players. They should now only be able to achieve their historic stats (previously, even with a work ethic of "1", they would 99% of the time still reach superstar status.) Example busts would be Olawonkandi, Bender, Wright, Fuller, Battie, Traylor, John Wallace
- Lowered various players who had too high FG%
- Lowered various player who had too high 3P%
- Decreased Harpring's potential scoring
- Tweaked Duncan to get more realistic stats
- Tweaked Van Horn to get more realistic stats
- Decreased Nash's potential scoring
- Increased Finley's overall stats
- Decreased Stojakovic's potential scoring
- Increased Stackhouse's potential scoring (didn't realize he averaged around 29 PPG one season...)
- Heavily tested the 95/96 roster file as well as the 96, 97, 98, and 99 draft files for greater historical accuracy
1.4 Fixes:
- Added 1998 Draft file (complete with college stats)
- Added Sasha Danilovic's picture, fixed Antoine Carr's picture
- Rigorously tested and tweaked various players in 95-96 roster file, 1996 and 1997 drafts (most notable changes are listed below)
- Increased Shaq's scoring and potential scoring
- Increased Karl Malone's scoring slightly
- Increased John Stockton's scoring slightly
- Decreased Grant Hill's potential scoring
- Decreased Calbert Cheaney's scoring and potential scoring
- Increased Glen Rice's scoring
- Decreased Joe Smith's scoring and potential scoring
- Decreased Armon Gilliam's scoring
- Decreased Michael Finley's potential scoring
- Increased Gary Payton's scoring
- Decreased Chris Webber's potential scoring
- Increased Chris Webber's potential rebounding
- Decreased Steve Nash's potential scoring
- Decreased Chauncey Billup's work ethic, scoring, and potential scoring
- Tweaked the 1997 draft file to be compliant with latest patch (rebounding/assists)
- Various players from 1996/1997/1998 drafts given a higher/lower value as well as lower work ethic ratings for "busts"
1.3 Fixes:
- Adjusted RPG to fit the changes in the latest patch
- Rehauled defense ratings. All NBA players start out at a base of "50" or average defense and work up from there based on how good they played defense. Example: Mutombo, Mckey, Robinson, Olajuwon, Ewing, Payton, Pippen, Jordan, Mourning, Phills, all got 90 or above ratings, Doc Rivers, Derek Harper, Sprewell, Blaylock, all got 80-90 ratings, Tim Hardaway, Strickland, Avery Johnson, C Robinson, Rik Smits, all got 70-80 ratings, Barkley, T. Hill, Kemp, Bogues, Green, Malone, all got 60-70 ratings...
- Rehauled basketball IQ ratings. Again, base rating of 50 for all NBA players and worked up from there based on how good the player is and how much experience they have. Example: Stockton, Jordan, Magic, Drexler, R. Miller, Parish, Smits, all got 90 or above ratings, Kevin Johnson, Buck Williams, Rodman, Coleman, Dumars, all got 80-90 ratings, Mourning, Grant Hill, Mullin, Skiles, Gilliam, Kidd, Salley, Mashburn, received 70-80 ratings, many 3.0-3.5 star players received at least a rating of 60-70...
- Adjusted FG% and 3P% to comply with the above adjustments (they were knocked off by as much as 10%, was a nightmare fixing it.)
- Continued to tweak many other players. Example: Rodman plays 30-32 MPG and can pulls down on average 13-15 RPG, Mutombo swats on average, 4+ BPG, Stockton averages 11+ APG
- Note: Team records and stats can be GREATLY impacted by both injuries and trades. Example: Phoenix was VERY injury prone in the 95-96 season and barely made the playoffs as a result, but although many Phoenix players are injury prone, you may sim a season where the team gets lucky and gets one of the best records in the league. This applies to many teams, especially Philly (Coleman was out the entire season), Dallas (Mashburn out for the entire season), and Orlando (if Shaq gets hurt the season is over pretty much.) In addition, trades can impact records/stats greatly as well. For example, Miami and Golden State had some major trades happen in the 95-96 season in which Miami made the playoffs and GS did not. In the game, these trades aren't likely to happen so GS will be making the playoffs and Miami will not.
- As always, stats aren't perfected and probably never will, but they are pretty accurate.
1.2 Fixes:
- Adjusted players APG to fit the 1.1.2 patch (APG are much more accurate now)
- Tweaked draft players to fit the 1.1.2 patch
- Added a few missing draft player photos
1.1 Fix:
- Switched Phil Jackson and Del Harris

If you need further information, maybe on previous drafts, coaches etc. etc. check out basketballreference.com
It has all the statistical information you should need.

Yeah, I got most of my information from basketballreference. I actually had that web site open all the time checking back and forth to make sure the stats were right for every player. I searched and searched, but I couldn't find some things like assistant coaches, salary information for coaches, and many of the 2nd round picks of the draft were not listed on the web site (I presume those players didn't play a game in the NBA.) So, I had to fill in the blanks with something.
I also got a lot of information about lesser known players and good insight into how that player played by reading old mock drafts. It's really funny and sometimes startlingly accurate some of the things that are said in them.

You install the mod the same way you use Lmamone's roster mod. You must already have an existing savegame with a properly saved coach file.
Simply erase all the files contained in your existing game except for the coach file and start a new game of the same name as your existing save game.

Nephrinn,
Great Work! Just want to point out that Chicago and LA's coaches have to switch teams in the next version of your roster. In this version of your roster mod Del Harris is assigned with Bulls while Phil is with LA. Phil shouldn't be in LA until the year 1999.
Overall the player ratings are nearly spot on. :)

Heh, I actually had it right, I just made a mistake in the numbers and had both coaches assigned to Chicago. I wish the game would have given me some kind of error instead of assigning one of them to LA instead. Thank you very much for pointing that out. I fixed it and re-uploaded the file.

Nephrinn, thanks for your hard work. Any advice to the rest of us for how to successfully tweak rebounds and assists for current rosters?
Rebounds are easy to fix. First, you have to realize that a 90 rating in off/def rebounding for a center is different than a 90 for a power forward, a small forward, a shooting guard, and a point guard. It's a cascading effect, which means that if you give a 90 to a center he'll average 13 or more RPG, while a 90 on a PG may get 6 or so (assuming they play the same minutes.) The simple fix is to lower the rebounding ratings aggressively for centers, semi-aggressively for power forwards, and so on. Except in rare cases like Dennis Rodman or Ben Wallace, anything over 80 or 90 for a center is way too excessive in DDS:PB.
Assists are harder to fix and tie in to many different things which I'll try to summarize:
1. Players. - The players on a team play the biggest part in determining the amount of assists point guards get. If the PG is on a team who flows well together, which means a good distribution of players who can score, pass, handle the ball, good IQ, ect., then the PG will be able to more easily get assists. This is very hard to control or perceive and takes a bit of experimentation and thought to get right.
2. Ratings. - To get more than 8+ APG in DDS:PB you need to give that PG 100's in Passing, BBallIQ, and consistency. Ball Handling can help, but don't over-use it because TOPG will be too low.
3. Coach. - The coach's strategies, especially offensive pace play a small role in how many assists the PG can get. The higher it is the more they will get. In a quicker offense it's usually --> PG brings ball up court ---> Passes to player ---> Player takes shot. In a slower offense it's more random --> PG brings ball up court ---> Passes to SG ---> Passes to SF ---> Passes to PF ---> Passes to SG ---> SG takes shot.
4. Plays - I don't think you can tell the AI to run plays (would be nice), but you can, as a coach, make plays that'll give your PG a ton of assists. :)
5. Playing Time. - Make sure the PG is playing enough minutes and that he ONLY plays at the PG position (in the depth charts.)

Nephrinn -
Thanks much for the advice on rebounding and assists. I'm creating a fictional league using my own original player names with the 06-07 default rosters as a starting point for editing. I will be trying some of the tweaks you've suggested for the fictional players.

Nephrinn,
Were you able successful in properly simulating a regular "Kidd"? I usally peg Kidd to post a triple double at least twice or thrice a season. In your roster file, I haven't seen Kidd hit a triple double at least once. Actually, I haven't seen anyone post a triple double in DDS: Pro even in the regular default roster.
Following your post, even if I give Kidd a 100 for both rebounding fields, he still won't hit double digits in rebounding in any game. The most he can probably reach is 7 or 8 rebounds.
I'm really curious as to how to craft a player capable of busting out a triple double sometime in the season.

Yes, I actually saw Kidd with at least 5 triple-doubles one season. I've seen Webber, Barkley, and Penny with a few as well. The problem you're having in regards to rebounds is that you have to redistribute them properly between the players. I guarantee you if you give Kidd 100's in rebounding and everyone else on his team 30's, he'll get a ton of rebounds. Also, make sure he's playing 40 minutes per game.

The roster will only work for a 29 team league. I didn't design it to work with any other league sizes.

Yes. Graphics for the Charlotte Hornets and Vancouver Grizzlies are different (New Orleans and Memphis), but other than that it's authentic.

Correct, you have to start a new game ... but since the fantasy draft only happens once you need to do that anyway if you want to use that option.

The Raptors are already in the rosters, I assume you meant the Bobcats? It's completely possibly to export your rosters at the end of the season before the Bobcats were added, and start a new league with 30 teams. I think you'd have to do some editing to the exported file before it would work though and I'm not sure if all the season stats prior would get exported.

You would also have to change Player Numbers and have it start before the Fantasy Draft.
You could just make 96-97 League and that would solve the problem because this game doesn't have a Database file like Lahemans and it should.

I hope all Deafults meaning team League setup are different in each league import if they are the same then I got to delete the one I changed in S_Grasham file for 32 teams because that gives me error when I start a new game with his file for a 32 team league because it's not reconizing my changes because I didn't the way the 32 team league should look like meaning Geographical.

Added the 1997 draft file! Includes all the major players with college stats. I generated new draft players for players who didn't play much in the NBA and/or had no stats. These players will have little impact on the league (but always have a small chance of developing...) Also, photos aren't needed for most players after 1996 or so since most are still playing today. Just download a NBA photo pack and use that.

wraywray - That's a fairly rare error and I haven't seen that in a long time. Make sure you have the latest beta patch.
Just to let everyone know, I'm reluctant to put out anymore draft files and/or rosters because Gary seems to be working on a fix for the rebounds which will really screw up my rosters and draft files (no anger towards Gary, I'm really happy the rebounds are getting fixed.) I'm just going to say that it'll take some work to fix the rosters and draft files because it's not simply fixing the rebounding ratings. For many players I had to raise/lower other ratings to make up for the lower rebounding ratings (so the player didn't get under/over valued.) So, I'd like to work on fixing the roster file and draft files before working on anything else (the 1998 draft file is nearly done already.)
The good news out of all this is of course rebounds will be fixed, but also stats and ratings should be even more accurate. :)

I'm sure you will find a couple of guys (including me who would like to get you those stats in a predefined form so you don't have to much trouble to insert them into the database)
- maybe I will just install the access to my machine & program a java program that is able to add them from txt or whatever) :)

I think it would be great to have them in the file, but it seems like an awfully lot of work. I'm pretty good with access and excel so if you or anyone else can get me a list of stats I need for the players, I can convert them into access. Basically, I need the following stats for each year a player played in the NBA in a horizontal format (any order):
Year
Player's full name (Michael Jordan)
Team
Games
Games Started
Minutes
MPG
FGA
FGM
FGPct
FTA
FTM
FTPct
FG3PA
FG3PM
FG3PPct
Points
PPG
Assists
APG
ORebs
DRebs
ORPG
DRPG
RPG
Steals
SPG
Blocks
BPG
Turnovers
TOPG
DQ
DoubleDoubles
TripleDoubles
That ALL needs to be on one horizontal line, with each line indicating a separate entry, for example:
1985 21 CHI NBA 82 38.3 10.2 19.8 0.1 0.6 7.7 9.1 2.0 4.5 6.5 5.9 2.4 0.8 3.5 3.5 28.2
1986 22 CHI NBA 18 25.1 8.3 18.2 0.2 1.0 5.8 6.9 1.3 2.3 3.6 2.9 2.1 1.2 2.5 2.6 22.7
1987 23 CHI NBA 82 40.0 13.4 27.8 0.1 0.8 10.2 11.9 2.0 3.2 5.2 4.6 2.9 1.5 3.3 2.9 37.1
1988 24 CHI NBA 82 40.4 13.0 24.4 0.1 0.6 8.8 10.5 1.7 3.8 5.5 5.9 3.2 1.6 3.1 3.3 35.0
That example is missing a lot of entries, but you get the idea of what I need. Once I have a long list of stats like that, I should be able to convert it over to the roster.

exel would be better since I'm only going to convert the txt to exel anyway, but it doesn't matter

Just letting everyone know that I'm currently working on MAJOR changes to the roster and draft files so that they give accurate stats with the newest patch. I'm not only fixing the rebounding ratings, but I'm also changing the defense, BBallIQ, and consistency ratings dramatically (good defenders and intelligent players will be fairly rare as they should be.)
Look for this to be finished within the next few days. :)

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't think it was me that made that error though. I believe I copied him over from another roster file. It'll be fixed when I release the new version of the rosters.
Speaking of which, the modifications are taking longer than expected, mostly because the radical change that I made to defense which increased FG% across the board. So, I had to fix that and few other things and at the moment I'm starting to finish everything up. I'm hoping to get it out by this weekend.

Yeah, I apologize for this taking so long. I've been spending hours each day tweaking the players and I'm almost done. The draft files should be relatively easy to modify so I'll at least be releasing the 1996 draft file when I release the roster.

There are 58 players included in my draft files and will work 100% on 29 team leagues. I'm not certain about 30+ team leagues, however. I THINK as long as you turn on the "allow foreign draft entry" and/or "allow high school draft entry" it SHOULD make up for the few missing players.

Okay, after spending the last two days running continuous tests and fixing/tweaking the players, I think I'm satisfied enough to release everything. Bare in mind that nothing is perfect and there's always a small chance that a "bust" player will turn out to be good, but changing history is what this game is all about anyway.
I'll see about working on the 1999 draft file. It's just a load of work gathering the players together, testing their stats in game (to make sure they're accurate), and inputting the college stats is always a pain since some of it involves using a calculator. Ugh.
Anyway, here are the fixes. Keep in mind these are just the major changes, I made so many minor changes to many players that I couldn't keep track of. Nonetheless, it's all done out of getting more accurate stats.
1.4 Fixes:
- Added 1998 Draft file (complete with college stats)
- Added Sasha Danilovic's picture, fixed Antoine Carr's picture
- Rigorously tested and tweaked various players in 95-96 roster file, 1996 and 1997 drafts (most notable changes are listed below)
- Increased Shaq's scoring and potential scoring
- Increased Karl Malone's scoring slightly
- Increased John Stockton's scoring slightly
- Decreased Grant Hill's potential scoring
- Decreased Calbert Cheaney's scoring and potential scoring
- Increased Glen Rice's scoring
- Decreased Joe Smith's scoring and potential scoring
- Decreased Armon Gilliam's scoring
- Decreased Michael Finley's potential scoring
- Increased Gary Payton's scoring
- Decreased Chris Webber's potential scoring
- Increased Chris Webber's potential rebounding
- Decreased Steve Nash's potential scoring
- Decreased Chauncey Billup's work ethic, scoring, and potential scoring
- Tweaked the 1997 draft file to be compliant with latest patch (rebounding/assists)
- Various players from 1996/1997/1998 drafts given a higher/lower value as well as lower work ethic ratings for "busts"

Check the first post at the bottom. It has links to all the draft files as well as the 1995-96 roster mod which includes all the logos and player photos. Simply, unzip the roster mod to your DDSPB folder and overwrite all (make sure to make a backup in case you want to revert back to the original!) Then, unzip the draft file you'll be using for that particular year to your league's save folder and don't forget to import it in the game.
As to the fix versions, they only apply to this mod (1995-96) and it's accompanying draft files as a way of keeping track of the things I'm fixing/tweaking/adding as I go along.
One final note: the 1999 draft file is in the testing phase right now and should be out in the next few days or in the coming week along with various fixes/tweaks for all the other files. Stay tuned!

Okay, here's the next update. Spent the entire week testing and tweaking things as well as finishing up the 1999 draft file. Enjoy!
Again, only major changes are listed. Too many minor changes to list.

Not without some considerable effort, I'm afraid. You'd have to export your database, filter out all the teams but the NBA teams, than carefully copy and paste from the updated 95/96 roster file, and then import it back into the game. I wouldn't even attempt it if your league is more than a year old, however.
To tell you the truth, many of the changes to the 95/96 roster were minor ones that involved adjusting FG% and 3P% though. Maybe a few small tweaks to various player's scoring potential (like Webber and Grant Hill.) The only major changes that I can think of was a big increase to Stackhouse's scoring potential (which you could do that manually, I raised it to 94) and raising Michael Finley's overall stats to make him a 4 star player.
The vast amount of changes went into the draft files (it's ALOT of work getting a player to turn out JUST right), which you can easily substitute in at the beginning of each season. If you've already used the older draft files, you're probably out of luck updating them.

Just lowered their potential ratings. Really, nothing else could be done but have them only be able to attain their historic stats. Apparently, having a low work ethic almost NEVER guarantees a bust. It may take longer for them to develop, but they'll at the least turn out pretty decent.
The only downside to lowering their potential ratings is that now the draft picks are kind of off. But that isn't saying much since I can't get big name players like Kobe Bryant and especially good players like Ginobli who went at the end of the 2nd round, to even come close to getting picked later on. Kobe usually goes like 2nd or 3rd and Ginobli in the 1st round's top 10 or 15.

06-04-2007, 09:32 AM
Yeah. That's difficult. In preparing the next version maybe Gary can include a bust% rating and an explode% rating which allow players to either turn out much better than they originally looked... or much worse.

I think there is some kind of hidden rating in the game that controls the rare event where like a 2 star potential player turns into a 4.5 or 5 potential star player. I'm not sure how it happens, but it would be neat to have better control of that so you could trick the computer (and the human) into thinking the player is a bust or vice versa.

This is just a compatibility update and should help with any crashes you may get with this roster. The draft files should be fine.

I'm not sure what you mean by no matter which one you load you always get the 96 file.
I'm also not sure what you mean by never get any rookie previews. If it's their statistics you're looking for, then you would click on the Future door of the file cabinet in the main office.
If you mean the mock draft, that doesn't come along until the offseason after it says "Creating Mock Draft" in the pop-up.

in the original post they have multiple draft files for 96, 97, 98 etc. But no matter which of these files I load into my game they always seem to come up as the 1996 draft pool.

How many teams are you trying to play with? The roster set's designed to only have 29 teams, so if you're running it with 30, for example, that could be why.

Thus, I'm stumped.
