How do you make logo backgrounds disappear?

The default logos don't have any background colors noticable (i.e. tranparent backgrounds) how do you do this?

I don't want to use the standard logos for my solo league. Thanks.

By the way I tried editing in MSpaint by changing the background to solid balck and that did not work.

My guess is that you'll need a Photoshop, or some similar, more advanced program.
