Is there a way to edit players while logged in as the commissioner? I have always played jump shot, but I think I could run a better online league with this new game, since people will be able to download and upload the league files directly. The only thing is that being able to edit incoming rookies and even current players and teams is important to me when choosing to purchase a game like this or not. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately, no. You can, however, export your league through commissioner, and then edit that file through MS Access, and then import it back into the game when you're finished. Once you get used to it, it's relatively easy to do. I believe many people who run leagues having been doing this with both TPB2005 and now DDS:PB.

Seriously, thanks for the help. I might try that, hopefully I can figure it out, because if not then I probably won't want to purchase the game. :( If I can though, I will run a cool online league, it'll be sweet! Wish me luck.

Let us know if you have any problems. You don't HAVE to have MS Access either fyi -- a quick google search for MDB editors will give you some options for other programs you can use on the database if you don't have Access.

Yeah, Bryan is right. Does Open Office include an application like MS Access? I forget. If it does, that would probably be the best to use if you don't have MS Access. It's free and does a very similar job.

I went into commissioner mode and exported the file, used MS Access to edit the ratings and imported the file back while in commissioner mode. When I looked at the edited player ratings they haven't changed. I tried exiting and opening up the game again and still no ratings change. I did the above steps two or three times and no rating change. Can anyone figure this out? Thanks.

The ratings themselves are changed, but you are looking at the scouted ratings. Most likely they probably haven't been rescouted since you imported the database.

Yeah, you'll notice at the end/beginning of a season it'll go through a process of scouting all the players. I think that's what Bryan is referring to here. It might be best to save before this process happens and do all your editing for each season then, that way you'll have updated ratings for the next season right away.

I edited the ratings in and did the whole export and import thing via commissioner mode. I also ran under administrator mode b/c I'm using Windows Vista. So I went forward in the season and after the whole scouting routine, I re-checked the ratings. The ratings remain the same. What's am I doing wrong?

You're probably not doing anything wrong. It may be at another point where the scouting process takes place.

Here's how to know if the ratings really changed:

1. Find a 1 star or 2 star player.
2. Export database.
3. Open database and find that 1 star/2 star player.
4. Edit his scoring and scoring potential to 99.
5. Exit database so that it saves.
6. Import database in game.
7. Now, you may not see any of that player's ratings has changed, but it probably has.
8. To find out if it has, try trading that player and see if his "worth" has changed. If you can all of a sudden trade him for a 4 star/5 star player, then you know it's working.

I assume that there's some point where the ratings will get re-scouted and you'll be able to see his updated ratings, but I don't know where. I just did this myself and was able to change a 2 star player's scoring rating to 99 and was able to trade him for a 4 star player.

another way to check : Just change his biographic data like size, weight or College. Those changes definitely occur immediately after importing the DB and if those work, that itīs safe to assume that the ratings are changed as well.

I did something like that w/ Lamar Odom just to see if he plays differently. I upgraded his scoring and rebounding to 99 in both real and potential columns. I imported the file back and simmed about 15 games. Lamar Odom plays no differently then before. But I'll try the 2 star rating thing and try to trade him and see what happens.

It sounds like there is probably something wrong in the import-export process. Send me a PM with the detailed steps you are using to change things and I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.

I tried exporting my database right after creating a league with the 2006-7 roster mod and got an overflow error. Guessing there are too may players or something.

OldSchool did you change the number of players? That number has to remain constant.

I can help you run an online league. I've experience with TPB so if you need help just tell me.

I also have Vista and had that problem. I could not do it in Commissioner mode import and export. I had to close down game and edit it from my save data base and re load the career. My changes then took place. Vista might have a security thing that hangs it up...............................Z

I think Tim meant did the mod itself change the number of players.

I don't know, its the 2006-7 roster from the sticky at the top of the thread.

Apparently its not an issue with the roster file though, I tried creating a league with default rosters and got the same thing. Basically if I log in as commissioner initially and try to export before doing anything else it always gives 'run time error 6: overflow'.

edit- Started again, logged in as my gm, saved the game, then logged back in as commish and tried to export and got the same error. I'll send the league files to Gary.

I got this too, RTP 6. I have Windows XP Home. I already sent mine in but I think Gary misunderstood me.

Old School what settings are you using in Step 1 General Setup. I just created a game with default settings, logged in as commish after creation process was complete exported the dbase and had no problems?

Just tried it with all default options and got the same error. (previously the only thing I was changing was difficulty level and the "gm can be fired by owner" option)

Actually I think I just always get this error when I try to export. I've tried at various points in the season and it always seems to pop up.

edit: I just noticed that the database gets created despite the crash.
