After winning the World Series in 1960, the Pirates dropped to 6th place in 1961. Danny Murtaugh resigned, and KG Erwin takes over as both field manager and GM.

The National League has also expanded, adding the Houston Colt 45s and the New York Mets. In Los Angeles, Walter O'Malley is opening his new stadium.
