Franchise mode has been a hot topic of discussion in the world of sports simulation games. There aren’t a ton of options out there that really quench gamers’ thirst for a realistic, immersive experience. Thus, this became one of our biggest goals at Wolverine Studios: Give you a franchise mode that you can’t resist.
So, that’s what we did.
We didn’t want franchise mode to merely be a feature in our games, though. Instead, we created it to be the dominant focus. We don’t just have franchise mode.
We are franchise mode.
You can find franchise mode in other games, but we wanted to raise the bar. We took the time to develop realistic AI in terms of team management, trading, signing free agents (in the pro games), and recruiting (in the college games). You play an incredibly active role in the present and future of your franchise, and so much of what happens depends on the actions that you decide to take.
Success in our games isn’t simply determined by an overall rating score or how well you can push buttons. It goes so much deeper than that.
You might pick some of the best players you’ve ever seen, but does that automatically mean they’re going to work well together? Not always. You have to find players that fit as a unit and know how to function as a team. And sometimes, surprisingly, the highest-rated player isn’t truly what your team needs to win. As the coach or general manager, it’s up to you to assemble a team that can’t be defeated.
You might very well find that it’s more challenging than you anticipated to find players that excel with the game plan, strategies, and plays that you design. There are a lot of moving parts. It’s about knowing how to manage each of those parts individually, and how to make them all work together harmoniously. You have to have both in order to succeed.
Our goal always has been and continues to be to give our players the most realistic experience possible. We want you to know what it truly feels like to be a general manager or coach of a franchise. Where other franchise modes typically fall short is that it’s all too easy to trick or manipulate their AI. What happens next is always too predictable, and it’s not all that difficult to play the system.
In the end, this means that you’re not left with much of a challenge — no real obstacles between you and the big win. And where’s the fun in that?
With Wolverine Studios’ games, you’re playing against an incredibly intelligent AI that is fully capable of making smart decisions. In a review of Draft Day Sports Pro Basketball 2021 written by Adam De Maria for GM Games, it says, “The AI was intelligent when it came to trading and building its roster. I struggled to swindle teams when attempting to bolster my squad after an early playoff exit in my first season and was forced to focus on tinkering with what I had … DDSPB 21 is a rare but brilliant achievement in the context of sports management simulations.”
There’s a reason why we were voted one of the top management sims in 2020.
The reviews speak for themselves. Josh Houtz writes on Operation Sports of Draft Day Sports: Pro Football 2021, “I expect to see a couple more NFL text-based simulations pop up over the next couple years. But as far as I’m concerned, there’s only one game at the top of the mountain right now, and while you can make a case for some of the other games on the market, Draft Day Sports: Pro Football 2021 gets my vote.”
There are no shortcuts or magic tricks that you can take, here. It’s all going to come down to strategy.
It’s not just about winning one game, either. It’s about leading your franchise to success and victory across multiple seasons. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Can you call all the right shots game after game, season after season? Can your skills as GM or coach stand the test of time? Can you stand up to even the most brutal of opponents?
With our franchise mode, you’ll find out.
